Consider timing as you plan your cosmetic procedures

At Cosmetic Solutions, we use state-of-the-art procedures to help you look your best – all without painful, invasive surgery and long recovery times. Despite this, planning still plays an important role in determining when a treatment should occur. Things like sun exposure and recovery times all need to be taken into consideration before a treatment can begin.

So, if you are considering a laser, IPL, peel, or injectable treatment, planning ahead is essential. Identify the special events, such as weddings, reunions or other celebrations, where you want to look your best and then plan accordingly.

Laser hair removal and Limelight (IPL) procedures require no sun exposure for several weeks prior to the treatments. That’s because with these treatments, the laser’s target is melanin in the hair color and in sun spots or age spots. When there is newly formed melanin in the skin, as in the case of tanned skin, there is more risk for injury to the skin during treatment.  Limelight also causes shedding of the pigment, which can take up to 2-3 weeks.

The perfect time for these treatments is from fall to spring and/or 1 month prior to an important event.

Laser vein treatment is very popular and effective for removing spider veins on the face, legs and other areas of the body. The laser’s target in this case is the blood in your veins; however, some of the laser’s energy is also absorbed by melanin in the skin. That’s why it is also important the areas that are treated are not tanned because it would increase risk for injury to the skin. It’s best this procedure occurs in the winter months when there has not been sun exposure.

Laser Genesis & Titan are a non-ablative resurfacing treatment and a skin tightening treatment safe for all skin types with or without a tan. Since the target for these treatments is the water in the skin, it can be done all year round. Laser Genesis & Titan are also “no down-time” treatments, which means they can be performed just before important events.

Injectable treatments, such as fillers (substances that plump the skin) and Botox Cosmetic (a substance that relaxes muscles), can be done year round but should not be injected closer than two weeks prior to an important event as bruising is possible and can take a couple of weeks to heal.

Chemical peels (chemicals applied to the skin’s surface to cause shedding of skin cells) can be performed any time, but some peels should be avoided prior to important events as it may take time for your skin to fully heal.

Facials and microdermabrasion (Vibraderm) are great for rejuvenating the skin and restoring a youthful glow. These treatments can be done at any time.
