Pre-Treatment Guidelines
Before your Botox session, we’ll ask you to avoid blood-thinning medications, like aspirin or ibuprofen, for at least a week. This helps reduce the chance of bruising at the injection sites. If you’re taking any supplements, such as fish oil or vitamin E, we may also recommend stopping these for the same reasons. Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, and come to your appointment with a clean face, free from makeup since this will help us to prep the area for your treatment.
During Your Treatment
We will start by going over your medical history, talking to you about the results you are looking for, and examining your facial structure. We may have you make different facial expressions so that we can see the way your muscles move under the skin and how your skin wrinkles and folds. Next, we will clean and sanitize the treatment area. We’ll make a series of small injections into specific muscles. The needles we use are extremely fine, so most patients describe the feeling as just a slight pinch. Depending on how many areas we’re treating, your appointment could last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. There’s no need for anesthesia, but we can apply a numbing cream if you’re concerned about discomfort. Throughout the process, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable and informed.
Post-Treatment Care
After your Botox injections, we’ll ask you to avoid lying down for at least four hours after treatment to prevent the Botox from migrating to unintended areas. You should also avoid massaging or rubbing the treated areas for at least 24 hours to allow the product to settle properly. You can return to your normal activities immediately, but stay away from any strenuous activities that could increase bruising or cause the product to disperse more. You may notice some swelling and redness, but these should be mild. Get in touch with us if you have any concerns.
